"When to the sessions of sweet silent thought

I summon up remembrance of things past,

I sigh the lack of many a thing I sought,

And with old woes new wail my dear times' waste:

But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,
All losses are restor'd and sorrows end."

Shakespeare: Sonnet 30

We, the Class of 1962, are pleased to dedicate our yearbook to our principal, Mr. Lindsay J.
March, in gratitude for his constant vigilance over our scholastic welfare and for the high
standard he has maintained for our school. We shall remember him "as a man faithful and
honorable" to the cause of education and to the interests of our class.

CLASS HISTORY

As sophomores we greeted Andover High, not
knowing exactly what would befall us in the next three
years, but brave enough to undertake our new world
head-on.

"Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown"; however,
our president, Mary Ann Pasquale, and her fellow of-
ficers: Malcolm Sandberg, vice-president; Louise John-
ston, secretary; Peter Beaven, treasurer; and Jo-Ann
Murray, Social Committee chairman guided us through
a very successful year. We held a bakery sale as well
as our first class dance. Holly Hop, which proved to be
a tremendous success.

"To be or not to be" was a thought in every mind
as we encountered Mid- Year Examinations for the first
time. Having survived the exams and Beatnick Day,
we had our class assembly, which was a new and fun-
filled experience.

Our junior year held many projects. Our first move
was the election of class ofl!icers: Malcolm Sandberg,
0^ president; Doug Howe, vice-president; Martha Zink,
secretary; Jim O'Reilly, treasurer; and Renee Dubocq;
Social Committee chairman. Next, we chose our class
rings. These formalities completed, we held a success-
ful bakery sale and a dance. Twilight Time. How could
any one possibly forget our memorable class assembly.'

Our biggest undertaking for the year was the Prom.
Under the guidance of Mary Ann Pasquale and Libby
Doig, Prom Committee chairmen, Starlight on the
Surf became a star-studded, moon-lit reality, and Renee
Dubocq its lovely queen.

Our "salad days when we were green in judgment"
had passed, and we were seniors. Our class oflicers:
Peter Beaven, prseident; Thelma Watson, vice-presi-
dent; Renee Dubocq, secretary; Jim O'Reilly, treasurer;
and Maureen Callahan, Social Committee Chairman led
us through two successful money-making projects: a
dance, Fall Festival, and a ski movie, Ski Happy. Our
football team, with Ray Collins and John Popielarski
as co-captains, was Little Three Champion.

Wendy Blackman and Mary Ann Pasquale were the
co-editors of the Andanno. "The play's the thing"; and,
under the able direction of Mrs. Saunders, the capable
representatives of our class performed You Can't Take
It With You.

" 'Tis true; 'tis true 'tis pity. And pity 'tis 'tis true"
that our senior year is over all too soon with a final
whirl of class day, class night, Senior Chapel, and
finally graduation, which will close the door to our
years at AHS and open the door to our future.

FOOTBALL TEAM

A tough hitting Andover High football team had its hands
full with strong opposition from the Northeast Conference
teams. In spite of the efforts and spirit of the team, it dropped
it first five games. Andover came back victorious in the last
four games of the season, winning the Little Three Cham-
pionship by defeating Methuen 20-6 and North Andover
24-0. Despite the faa that the team was made up mostly of

underclassmen, it improved as it gained in experience under
the leadership of co-captains Ray Collins and John Popie-
larski. The Varsity Club awards for the outstanding players
of the season went to guard John Popielorski and half-back
Boyd Reynolds.

Tackles Barry Connors and Tom Coffman were elected
co-captains for the 1962 season.

spring Track

Last spring the Andover High School Spring Track Team completed its season by
being the state champions.

With the return of the veterans — John Popielarski, captain; Jack Ely, Richard Close,
Frank McBride, Richard Glennon, and Tom Clark — together with the addition of capable
juniors and sophomores this year's spring track team promises to have another very suc-
cessful season.

Winter Track

With an overall score of five wins and two losses, this year's Winter Track team,
under the excellent coaching of Mr. Richard Collins, had an enviable record. Winter
Track has become an outstanding sport at Andover High School.

This winter the team beat Salem High School, the class B champion, and also had
convincing wins over Lawrence, Lynn, Reading, and Beverly High Schools. In their final
event, Andover High placed second in the strong North Shore League and third in the
Class D State Meet.

Herb Westbrook had an undefeated season of his own in the 45 yard High Hurdles
and was voted most valuable player of the year.

The Gymnastic Team of Andover High School, headed by Co-Captains Robert
Miller and Richard Morgan, has had an undefeated season as we go to press. The team,
under the able direction of Mr. Joseph Dorsey, shows fine prospects of winning the
State Championships. The Exhibition Team, which consisted of both boys and girls,
presented its last three shows at Wilmington, Bedford, and Andover, ending a very suc-
cessful season.

Cross-Country

Although the Cross-Country team lost four of the seven meets in which it participated
Mr. Dorsey was pleased with the effort displayed. Some of the outstanding team mem-
bers were Ron Van Deowestine, Robert Cargill, Franklin Harrison, John Weeks, Edward
Parker, Peter Beaven, Captain; and Dean Chateauneuf who placed in the top twenty per-
cent in the state meet. Coach Dorsey is looking forward to a successful season next fall.

Coach Theodore Boudreau's baseball team is looking forward to a successful season
this year. Captain Ray Collins is most optimistic concerning the outcome of the season's
twenty games. One of the chief reasons for such optimism is that five lettermen, Kevin
Lynch, Bob Goldswaithe, Norman Wallace, Bob Young, and Ray Collins, are returning.

last year, winning three out of their last four games.

Led by the high scoring of Pat Lynch, the high-spirited team was stiff competition
for all opponents.

The junior varsity won five of the eight games played, and anticipates a successful
